“Excessive stress in your life leads to your Vata dosha becoming imbalanced. Your activity will start to feel out of control. Your mind may race, contributing to anxiety and insomnia.” -Chopra Center

The past two and a half years have been pretty crazy for everyone with covid19. On a personal level, I’ve completely changed my work paradigm and gone nomadic knowing I would need to make some pretty big life changes to support my aging parents. Not knowing what this would look like back in the summer of 2020, but feeling a sense of urgency, I began diving deeper into my Yogic practices for clarity. Every day I sat in meditation and practiced Yoga Nidra. To combat the mental frenzy with my Vata Dosha becoming imbalanced, I grounded myself in consistent practice. Over the next few weeks, things shifted internally. Not only did my sleep quality and digestion improve, but I started to feel shifts within me. My intuition strengthened, feelings stirred and the visions flooded my inner vision.

We all have intuitive “Super Powers.” They are lovingly referred to as “The Six Clairs,” or the clair senses. The key is to learn how to develop them and work with them. When I was a child, I didn’t have guidance to cultivate my spiritual connection and work with my intuitive gifts, so I experienced anxiety and depression, because I felt different and alone. My guides and teachers eventually showed up, and now I feel confident strengthening my intuition, helping others, and supportig my 10 year old daughter who is highly intuitive. If you’re interested in learning about your intuition, strengthening your dominant clair, and cultivating a spiritual practice to help you on your life journey, please continue reading.

Here’s a list of the 6 Clair Senses, and I’d love to hear which one you identify with.

Clairvoyance:

This means clear seeing, and you would see visions from the past or future flash through your mind’s eye (Ajna Chakra). When your 6th Chakra is aligned then you will be able to tap into your 6th sense and receive wisdom beyond logical knowledge. The ancient civilizations reveared the Seers who cultivated their gifts of knowing. There are many Yogic practices to help someone develop their Clairvoyant abilities, such as:

  • Meditate. My favorite is the Trataka (candle gazing) Meditation, but the Buddhist meditation Ānāpānasati is also highly effective. I have these meditation videos available on Radiant Centre Online, if you’re interested in practicing Yoga and Mindfulness together.
  • Mantra.  This is a word, sound, or phrase that is repeated to hold the focus of the mind and move prana (life force energy). Try saying, “I am balanced and aware,” or “I trust my intuition.”
  • Mudra (seal). This is a position of the hands or fingers to move prana specifically to promote healing and balance. Explore the Gyan mudra while meditating or working with Mantra.

  • Asana (Yoga Postures). Balasana, a.k.a. Child’s Pose is an excellent pose to move prana to the Ajna Chakra.

Clairvoyant people are visual and often choose to be artists, builders, photographers, decorators, designers and so forth. If this sounds familiar, your clairvoyance is most likely a dominant sense. Carve out time to make art and practice Yoga to strengthen your intuition.

Clairaudience:

This means clear hearing, and you would hear words, sounds, or music in our own mind’s voice. Some of us best retain and comprehend information when we hear it spoken aloud. This intuitive superpower can be strengthened through these Yogic practices, which balance the Vishuddha Chakra of the throat and ears:

  • Kirtan. Singing Mantra is a powerful tool for atunement and spiritual alignment. Try singing the Siri Gaitri Mantra: “Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung,” which is translated to mean “Sun, Moon, Earth, Infinity: All that is in infinity, I am Thee.” Sing it like Julie Andrews in the ‘Sound of Music’: Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do, So-Do

Ra (sun) – root chakra

Ma (moon) – sacral chakra

Da (earth) – navel chakra

Sa (impersonal infinity) – heart and throat chakras

Say (totality of infinity) – third eye chakra

So (personal sense of merger and identity) – crown chakra

Hung (the infinite) – sends energy from the crown back to the root chakra

  • Bramari Pranayama “bumble bee breath” is a powerful breathing technique that uses a humming sound on the exhale to stimulate the hypothalamus to secrete oxytocin from the pituitary gland. It also helps to reduce anxiety. You can find that on my Yoga membership (Radiant Centre Online) as well.
  • Cat/Cow is a gentle and accessible Vinyasa (movement with breath) Yoga practice to balance the Vishuddha Chakra.

Our natural talents tend to lie in our auditory faculties, often making us gifted musicians, singers, writers and public speakers. If this feels right to you, clairaudience may be a leading sense for you.

Clairsentience:

This means clear feeling, and you would feel a person’s or spirit’s emotions or feeling another’s physical pain. Many of us are clairsentient without consciously being aware of it. When we get a strong “gut” feeling, positive or negative, about someone we just met or when we get the “chills” for no apparent reason, we may be tuning into the emotional energy of a person or a spirit around us. This Clair is connected to the Swadisthana Chakra. Try these Yogic practices to balance the energy of the “Sacral Chakra” and strengthen this Clair:

  • Asanas (Yoga postures): Malasana (squat), Happy Baby, and Goddess Pose

Goddess Pose

  • Yoni Mudra on the lower abdomen over the repoductive organs. Breathe into the space between the hands. You may feel a pulse.

Yoni Mudra

  • Other practices that I love to balance this chakra are taking “Goddess Baths” and dancing. Dancing moves prana.

Highly sensitive individuals are in tune with their own feelings and the feelings of others. They make natural healers and caregivers. We often feel inspired to pursue careers as doctors, therapists, counselors, nannies and teachers. If this is you, clairsentience is at the top of your senses list.

Clairalience:

This means clear smelling, which is the ability to smell odors that don’t have any kind of physical source. Instances of this could include smelling the perfume or the cigarette smoke of a deceased relative, used as a sign of their presence around us. This Clair superpower is more rare and it is also connected to the Vishuddha Chakra like Clairaudience.

When our sense of smell is strong and distinct, we may find that certain smells connect us to past memories or we may be drawn to working as a florist, a wine taster, or a perfume fragrance creator.

Clairgustance:

This means clear tasting, which is the ability to taste something that isn’t actually there. This experience oftentimes comes from out of the blue when a spirit is attempting to communicate a memory or association with a particular food or beverage. This Clair is also associated with the Vishuddha Chakra. It is important that we move prana from the physical body up to the Subtle “Energy/Prana” body.

If we have a heightened sense of taste, this would make us natural chefs, bakers, or food critics.

Claircognizance:

This means clear knowing, which is when we have knowledge of people or events that we would not normally have knowledge about. They come to us in downloads. Spirit impresses us with truths that simply pop into our minds from out of nowhere, as in premonitions. Claircognizance requires tremendous faith because there’s often no practical explanation for why we suddenly “know” something. The Ajna and Sahasrara Chakras are connected to this Clair Power. Try these Yogic practices to help you strengthen this Clair:

  • Nadi Shodana Pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) on Radiant Centre Online
  • Meditation
  • Yoga Nidra
  • Asanas that stimulate the crown of the head like headstands

Many philosophers, professors, doctors, scientists, religious and spiritual leaders, and powerful sales and business leaders tend to be highly intuitive and seem to just know the facts with a sense of certainty. If this is you, consider claircognizance as one of your dominant senses.

In the summer of 2020 when I dived deeply into my subtle Yoga practices, I used my Claircognizance to know what to do and fearlessly took action. It took a lot of work to create Radiant Centre, build the Yoga membership component (I have 180 videos uploaded), and transform Radiant Centre into a registered Yoga Alliance school so that I can transform individuals into Yoga Teachers.

These visions came to me in a series of vivid downloads. My intention was to create a way to support my students from anywhere in the world, because I knew we would need to move from southern California (Ramona, CA.) to Tucson, Arizona to support my parents.

Now we’re here!

We found a home in a community of Tucson that prides themselves in sustainability, which aligns with our values. My parents live 10 minutes away from us. Things are unfolding as they’re meant to and better than I could have imagined. Once you “see,” you have to do the work, relinquish some control, and trust the Divine process.

To balance the Vata energy it is important to find ways to stay grounded, especially when you move into a new environment. Practicing Yoga, going on walks, dancing, cooking, gardening, and making a new house into a soothing home and sanctuary will do the trick! Remember that the positive side of Vata is intuition and creativity. When your life is in flux, find your radiant center to quell the fear.
